Our weeklycamaro #18 is a letter from Otto Mueller. In it, the former professor recommended his art student Alexander Camaro (then: Alfons Kaczmarofski) for a scholarship from the Hugo J. Herzfeld Foundation. Camaro studied between 1920 and 1927 at the State Academy of Arts and Crafts in Wroclaw and „experienced the silent and encouraging sympathy from his teacher Otto Mueller“. Die Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografie von 1916/17 zeigt Alexander Camaro mit seiner Zirkus-Familie. Als 16Jähriger schloss er sich einem Wanderzirkus als Seiltänzer an. Auf dem Foto steht der junge Camaro bei den Schausteller:innen, mit denen er durch die Breslauer Umgebung reiste und auftrat. Es war eine intensive Zeit, in der Camaro das Zusammenspiel von Arbeit und Leben erfuhr, was ihn für sein weiteres Leben und späteres künstlerisches Schaffen prägte.

The black and white photography from 1916/17 shows Alexander Camaro with his circus family. At the age of 16 he joined a traveling circus and performed, among other things, as a tightrope walker. The photography shows the young Camaro on the right side beside other showmen, with whom he traveled and performed in the Wroclawian suburbs. It was an intense time in which Camaro experienced the interplay of work and life. This shaped him for the rest of his life and later artistic work.
